We often think of life as a product that should come with a satisfaction guarantee. When problems arise—illness, loneliness, a sense of meaninglessness—we feel cheated. It is as if life were a piece of faulty merchandise that would be best returned to the warehouse.
However, life is not a project to be optimized, but a mystery to be lived. The real question is not "how do I avoid pain?" but "what do I do with a life that contains this pain?". The Christian response to this question is paradoxical and astonishingly fresh.
Life is not a project to be optimized
We live in a culture that idolizes success and instant relief. We treat problems like bugs in a system. Meanwhile, in Christian theology, difficulties are not proof of God's absence, but often the place of His most intense presence.
Life is worth living because every problem is a fissure through which a light can enter—a light we fail to notice in the full sun of success. It is precisely in moments of fragility that we discover we are not self-sufficient, and that is the most beautiful discovery a human being can make.
The God who entered the heart of the fracture
Christianity is the only religion that speaks of a God who has scars. Jesus Christ did not come to theorize about suffering from the safe distance of heaven. He entered the very heart of the human drama. He experienced betrayal, the fear of death, and the feeling of abandonment.
Why does this matter? Because it means that in your struggle, you are not alone. God is not looking down on you from above; He is standing beside you, in the same mud. Life is worth living because your life is a battlefield upon which the Creator Himself has committed His strength. Every breath you take amidst hardship is an echo of His victory over the darkness.
Scars that become windows
The Resurrection did not erase Jesus' wounds. He showed them to His disciples as proof of His identity. This is an incredible lesson: our problems and wounds do not have to be a shameful burden. They can become our most authentic story.
Life is worth living because the story of your life is not over yet. God is a brilliant Author who can draw the most beautiful chapters from the darkest of prologues. Your "I can't" of today can become the foundation for tomorrow's "I understand and I can help others."
Hope as an act of courage
Hope is not a naive conviction that "it'll all work out somehow." Hope is a hard, almost stubborn choice to trust that life has meaning even when we cannot feel it. It is the decision to take the next step, even if the fog does not lift.
Life is worth living because you are wanted. Not for something, not on the condition of success, but simply because you are. Each day is a new chance to encounter a Love that is not afraid of your problems. Do not give up—the light of Easter always follows the darkest night.
